Abstract:This brochure explains how cigarette smokers, as well as nonsmokers who are exposed to environmental tobacco smoke, are at greater risk of developing heart diseases. It reveals how smoking effects the heart via circulation problems, atherosclerosis, peripheral vascular disease, heart attack, angina pectoris, and chronic lung disease. Teens who smoke and women who take birth control pills increase ther risk of heart attack. Low-tar and low-nicotine cigarettes are discussed also.
