The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) was founded in 1983 and is the only national nonprofit membership organization working on behalf of the children of alcoholics and drug dependent parents.
The people hurt most by drugs and alcohol don't even use them; they are the CHILDREN of alcoholics and other drug dependent parents.

It is estimated that there are over 28 million Americans who are children of alcoholics and almost half that number are under age 20. Many of these children live in chaotic homes that lack stability and support. Many will develop serious behavioral and emotional problems that will affect their lives forever.

NACoA again renews its commitment to increasing awareness of the needs of children and families hurt by alcohol, alcoholism and drug abuse in the home and to working more vigorously than ever to expand effective, supportive and healing responses. Without education, intervention and support during their critical developmental years, children of addicted parents will be more likely to live lives of confusion, fear, loneliness, emotional abuse and neglect. We know it is possible to prevent or minimize the extent of these problems, saving families and lives.

NACoA’s Run for the Children® is an annual event where walkers and runners participate in full and half marathons across the country throughout the year helping make the suffering of the 1 in 4 children living in homes with alcohol and drug abuse visible to the public. It is our hope that people will question this problem and ask how they can make a difference. In addition to the increased awareness of the issue the members of TEAM NACoA raise money to help with the research and development of new programs and resources to help the children. Our team members may or may not be children of alcoholics but all of them have been motivated to join our mission because of someone in their lives who has been touched by alcohol or drug dependencies.

To ensure the future of NACoA and planning for our efforts to continue to fulfill our mission: to advocate for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other drug dependencies, we have included this year an outreach to people who have the experience and know how to help others train and prepare to participate in one of these races.

We are asking you to commit a few weeks of your time to recruit and train a team of 10.

With your help we can make a difference. Click here for details
