NACoA Thanks Betty Ford
The name Betty Ford is synonymous with the theme of the Betty Ford Center’s logo – “Serving Patients, Serving Families.” From the very beginning, Betty Ford’s clarity about the need for the children and families to be provided help for their own healing radiated out to all she encountered. She was dedicated to establishing a place of genuine recovery for both addicted individuals and their family members, including the young children of addicted parents, setting the bar for breaking the cycle of addiction that persists in too many families. Betty Ford did not insist on just a “family program,” she insisted on healing programs for young and adolescent children as well, and she brought the nation’s leading “kids’ guy” – Jerry Moe – to develop and manage the program and then allowed him to take the story and the techniques for helping these children across the country and across the globe. NACoA’s prestigious national leadership award is named for Betty Ford, and NACoA is deeply honored to have that privilege. Making the world better and safer for children and families impacted by addiction is what we do at NACoA. For 25 years, Betty Ford made our work easier. She was – and continues to be – a great gift to the millions of children who need her passion for them and her great vision. NACoA will always be grateful.
