CHILDREN S’MILES June 2002
WELCOME NACoA-thoners!
This is the 1st in a series…
of newsletters
you’ll be receiving as part of NACoA’s commitment to you, to help
you train for a healthy walk or run adventure at Walt Disney World® Marathon
2003.
Whether you’re new to the program or a seasoned participant, we’re grateful to have you as a member of TEAM NACoA as we walk and run for The Children.
January ‘02 was
our 1st Run for the Children. While there are hundreds of walking/running
events around the country each year, we selected the Walt Disney World®
We had such a grand time, despite a driving rain 3 hours into the event, that we’re headed back to Disney this year for NACoA’s 20th Anniversary celebration!

And we’re raising the bar this year: Last year we had 57 starters -- and 57 finishers! This year we’re hoping for over 100. Last year our Run for the Children raised over $140,000; this year we’re training for $250,000!
Here’s
what you can expect from us as your coaches and cheerleaders…
FUND-RAISING TIPS

Here
are your 1st Bright Ideas:
i Try on 3 pairs of the same-size shoe you like. I’m told by a running coach that shoes don’t run true to size.
i When you find the right running/walking shoes, buy at least 2 additional pairs immediately. Don=t risk their becoming discontinued! It happened to me last year. With only 6 weeks until last January’s marathon, I had what were recommended to be the best comparable shoes. As it turned out, they weren’t. I finished the full marathon with 7 blisters. I’ve found a new brand and have several pairs waiting their turn throughout the next several months! Depending on how much wear/tear your shoes endure, consider buying enough pairs to get you to Disney with a fresh set of shoes.
In
the words of Woody Woodpecker, “That’s
all, Folks!” Until our next
newsletter, may the wind be at your back and the road rise to meet you!
