CHILDREN S’MILES

 COUNTDOWN 12 !! Â

Just 12 weeks until we all meet for a fabulous weekend at Disney!

Just a few more days, Teammates, to commit to walk and run for the Children!

October 30 is the cutoff date for our Disney "NACoA-thon."  Know anyone who's fence-sitting?  Pull 'em over to our side!  Let's make a strong showing for this year's event, which celebrates 20 years of NACoA's extraordinary work !!

And what an exciting weekend it promises to be…  Hospitality Suite near the Expo,  Rally and dinner Saturday night.  Particpants' Pre-Dawn Breakfast.  Reception & dinner Sunday to honor medalists and celebrate NACoA's 20th Anniversary!  Plan to stay over Sunday for a great finale celebration !!!!!

        COACH’S CORNER

YOUR OWN EVENT…

For those new to walking/running long distance events, some encouragement:  make it your own event.  It's your moment of glory…  The pinnacle of your exceptional efforts over months of training.  Make it whatever it needs to be for you!

As you know, I'm no pro.  I run for the joy of moving in nature, through space.  And for the commitment to our wonderful cause, The Children, and the donors who support us generously.

I've chosen to run 3-5 events each season to raise money for NACoA and other charities, and   just returned from the Lake Tahoe marathon. Like Disney, this event has walking/running in full and half marathons.

I entered the full marathon, expecting a tough go because I'd been unable to continue my long distance running schedule.  I'd simply "do my best," which would be great whatever the result!

The exhilaration of being there for charity was incredibly powerful…  so that despite altitude and mountain ups/downs I ran a great 17+ miles!  Then the knees gave out.  So I walked – most of the last 9 miles.  Not a trained walker (it takes special training and different muscles to race-walk!), I did my own thing and finished this event in better time than my previous 2 marathons!

Moral of the story:  Whether hare, tortoise, or a little of both, we're all winners as we Run for the Children!

OUR fundraising

Remember:  there are NO RULES in FUNDRAISING!  Ask anyone, anytime, any place! We never know where the donations will come from, or when.  I'm continually surprised.  Keep the faith, keep up the effort.

As October 30 draws near, NACoA needs as much of your $2000 minimum donations as possible because they have to pre-pay Disney on November 1st for your room, your race registration, , the scheduled meals and related events, and other expenses. This includes your personal 3-night stay (F-S-S) in the beautiful Coronado Springs Hotel at Walt Disney World®.  Of course, you are encouraged to keep finding supporters until race day – for the children.
